Instagram is constantly evolving. We've seen so many new features and improvements for this platform recently that we've gathered and compiled the most interesting ones. Instagram has rolled out a new feature: Private Story Likes. So now, in addition to replying to a Story via private message or sticker, you can also reply with just a like.
Adam Mosseri explains that the main reason for this overhaul is to clean up the messages section. When you reply to a Story, whether with a question sticker, a quick reply (one of the eight suggested emojis), or by clicking "Send Message," the person who posted the message will receive a message in their inbox.
Quick Story Reactions.
I have to admit, I sometimes find this a bit excessive myself. If you see a story you like, you can only share it via DM. That also makes it more difficult. But that's a thing of the past now, thanks to the addition of likes to Stories.
Besides this reason, Instagram also knows that liking Reels and videos on TikTok works well. It's actually strange that this is only being rolled out now. But that doesn't make it any less convenient.
How does it work?
Simple! At the bottom of your screen, where you now see the "Send Message" box when viewing Stories, the "Like" option will appear. You'll see the "Like" heart icon between the text box and the DM icon.
If you click the heart icon, the creator can see that you've liked the Story. The creator can see which viewers have left a heart in the viewer sheet (which you access by swiping up on your own Story). This isn't public, but only visible to the creator. And you only see which viewers have liked the Story, not how many likes you've received in total.
Hopefully, this new feature will keep Instagram inboxes a bit cleaner, so that important messages don't get lost as quickly.
